Volunteers Packing Food

Our Story

Congo (NBL) & Cymru Cooperation is a voluntary organisation dedicated to alleviating poverty and advancing sustainable development and wellbeing for disadvantaged and marginalised communities in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Congo. With a strong presence in Newport, Wales, and in the rural Congolese regions of Niarie, Bouenza, and Lekoumou, the organisation works across borders to tackle the root causes of deprivation while addressing the immediate needs of those facing hardship.

In both contexts, the organisation focuses on areas where poverty is persistent and systemic barriers limit access to opportunity. Its core interventions address fundamental issues such as food insecurity, lack of access to education, poor health outcomes, and social exclusion. By offering practical support such as food banks, school supplies, and basic health resources—alongside community-building initiatives—the organisation aims to improve the quality of life for individuals and families experiencing vulnerability.

The organisation takes a holistic and community-centred approach, recognising that poverty is not just a lack of financial resources but a complex web of social, educational, and health-related disadvantages. In the UK, the organisation supports families in financial distress, promotes social cohesion through inclusive events, and provides literacy support and wellbeing activities. In Congo, its efforts are adapted to the rural context and focus on improving access to basic services, supporting community-led education, and empowering local leaders to foster resilience.

Our Mission

Ultimately, Congo (NBL) & Cymru Cooperation seeks not only to provide short‑term relief but to create long‑term, sustainable change. By investing in people, strengthening communities, and building cross‑cultural partnerships, it works to ensure that all individuals—regardless of where they live—have the tools and opportunities to lead dignified, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

In Newport and various rural areas of the Republic of Congo, access to sufficient, nutritious food remains a daily struggle. Our food distribution programme is designed to support individuals and families experiencing economic hardship, food insecurity, or sudden crisis. These food banks offer a reliable and compassionate safety net, ensuring that beneficiaries can meet their basic needs with dignity.
